Term 3 Reflection 2020

                                                                   Term Three Highlights

This term my class Te Kinga has been mainly focused on the Kapa Haka competition. But because of covid 19 we didn't get to perform with the other competitors. We learnt heaps of new songs including Toia mai, Ko ti whirika, and some other songs too. Our teacher Whaia Nic even made her own song "Aha Koa". We recently had to remake our poi too because they kept breaking as we were using them every day. 

Though the kapa haka was our main focus we still did lots of other stuff too like speeches we made at the start of the term, and the maori, legend cut out landscapes. We also did some science experiments because a scientist called Judith came to our school to help us with that. At the start of the term we also had cross-country which we had at our school because we were still in level 2, but the people who wanted to do the west coast, cross-country went to the Kumara race track to do that the following week as well. 

We also had the year 7 and 8 disco during week three or four as well as pet day a few weeks ago though we weren't allowed to bring pets because it was still level 2 then.

One of the best highlights of term though was the Rippa Rugby unit. Our class was split into four different teams and we had matches against the other teams. We all had jobs in our team too. There was the Stats person and the coach. I began as vice captain but after someone in our school left I was captain.

My Favourite time in Lockdown

My favourite time in lockdown was probably the day we took our dog Shadow,  for a big run. He was very
excited and energetic and was able to keep up with our bikes easily. Since we are now in lockdown we
don’t  go to the bush track anymore, we just bike from home to the new garage where we sometimes get
supplies like flour or butter when we need it. So we biked down the big hill from our house, down the
verge of the main road to the lake where we let shadow have a swim before going up to the shop.
After we had our supplies we biked down the road again through corners and back up our annoyingly
steep hill to home where it was now starting to rain.

Have A Go Sailing Day

Yesterday afternoon on Monday we went sailing around the lake. We buddied up in two's and I went with my friend Elsie. We were all going to go in optimists (boats that were more bucket shaped than others), but since there were many people sailing in our class it was decided that Elsie and I would go  in my family's own boat, which was called a bic and was more swift and streamline than the optimists - much easier to sink. First we rigged up the boats and then took them down to the water. We capsized twice in the bic, once when I was steering the rudder and another time when Elsie tacking (turning), so I guess we're even. What I liked most about capsizing was when we had to pull the boat up again by standing on the center board. Since it was a bit hard sailing the bic we swapped into someone else's optimist and it was much easier. When we were sailing the optimist back to the jetty I dipped my hand into the water  and so did Elsie. It made us feel a little uncomftable  because compared to the usual cold waters of the lake, this was WARM!
